Douglas Wright Holland Knight was born on February 8, 1923 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He attended the University of Florida and then served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he returned to the University of Florida and earned his law degree. Holland Knight then began his career as a lawyer and later served as the district attorney for Brevard County, Florida. He was also a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1967 to 1971 and the Florida Senate from 1971 to 1977. In 1977, Holland Knight was appointed to serve as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. He served in this position until his retirement in 1990. Douglas Wright Holland Knight died on December 9, 2011 at the age of 88.
